Salvete Care Home provides 24-hour Long-term, Short-Term, and Respite care, with fully qualified and trained staff to support the residents.
To provide high quality care and services we work in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams and organisations across Bedfordshire. These include GPs, District Nurses, Social Workers, Chiropodists, Pharmacists and specialist Nurses, together with Bedford Hospital and the Local Authorities (Bedford Borough Council and Central Bedfordshire Council). Through the use of individual assessments and monitoring we understand each resident’s needs, and provide quality care that promotes health and well-being. This also helps to reduce the number of admissions to Hospital by targeting and dealing with any concerns immediately. Click here to watch the report by BBC News on Salvete Care Home.
The Management and Senior Staff team are qualified to administer residents medication, which they also monitor and manage. The Home has a close relationship with a friendly Optician's service that visits the Home regularly or as per residents' needs. They carry out full eye tests and offer a complete status and action report back to the Home recording any changes in resident's eyesight.
The Home has a proactive and varied Activities and Entertainment program, to suit our residents' diverse interests. Please see the 'Activities & Entertainment' section for more information. We have regular resident meetings and discussions with families to share any information on the Home, events and services, as well as to gain important feedback and comments. This helps us to continuously develop and improve the Home's services. We provide a monthly newsletter for relatives on current events, news, activities, outings and upcoming events.
The Home offers en-suite, single, and double rooms equipped with telephone, TV and internet points. We have three communal rooms to cater for the diverse interests and needs of our residents. The main lounge is spacious and lively, fitted with multiple flat screen TV’s, a DVD player and a music centre for residents to enjoy. The large dining area is bright and airy, and opens out into the garden as well as operating as a multifunction room for various activities.
Open, Spacious, Relaxing Environment
Adjacent to the dining area, the conservatory offers residents a comfortable, open, and fresh space to unwind, read, and relax, or just enjoy an afternoon tea overlooking the garden. The extensive garden has a variety of shrubs, flowers and trees and gives residents the opportunity to take a stroll, or just rest on the seating areas provided. The garden is also utilised for parties and activities during the year.
Peaceful & Pleasant
We have a reading area stocked with a small library where residents can choose from a variety of books. A room is available for any private meetings between residents, familes and Health professionals. The Home has an in-house laundry to ensure that all residents’ clothes are kept clean, fresh and stored appropriately in their individual rooms.
The Home operates a wireless Nursecall system located in all bedrooms, bathrooms, corridors and public areas around the Home, so that immediate support can be requested at anytime for residents and staff. For those residents whose family or friends may live far from the home or who may not be able to visit regularly, we have a laptop set up with Skype and email to enable residents to keep in touch with their loved ones through visual, verbal and written communication.
Meal times are an important part of our residents daily activities and needs, not only to maintain their health and energy but also a time to socialise with other residents and staff in the Home. Residents can enjoy the atmosphere with music, conversation and delicious food, in the main dining room. Lounge and in-room dining are also available, as well as alfresco dining in the summer months if requested.
Our cooks prepare fresh healthy meals every day that are nutritious and well-balanced in accordance to our residents dietary needs and individual preferences. The menu offers choice and diversity and is updated regularly. The Home has received many commendations from residents and their families on the quality and variety of food served. The Home has a Five Star Food Hygiene rating, and staff are trained with the new NHS Food First initiative.
Fresh, Healthy, Nutritious & Well-Balanced Meals
The Home has a Hairdressing room and a resident hairdresser who visits weekly to provide a service to all residents. We offer a fortnightly professional massage and therapy service for residents to relax, indulge, and enjoy. A chiropodist also visits on a regular basis as per residents requests and requirements.
