“…mum’s first experience of residential care was far from satisfactory … then we found Salvete … all the things that were important to mum were met … fantastic food, great entertainment, and sense of humour … I always was greeted with a smile and left with a smile … I can’t thank you enough for the loving care that you gave mum.”

Salvete in more detail:
Salvete has an excellent reputation in Bedfordshire, and everything we do has our residents’ wellbeing at its heart.
We are an active member and contributor of Friends for Life and the Bedfordshire Care Group, as well as the ‘My Home Life’ movement.
To help us provide the highest quality of care and service, we work in partnership with multi-disciplinary teams and organisations across Bedfordshire. This includes GPs, district nurses, social workers, chiropodists, optometrists, pharmacists, specialist nurses, Bedford Hospital and the local authorities, Bedford Borough Council and Central Bedfordshire Council.
Every one of our residents is assessed before admission to understand their needs, which allows us to provide high quality care that promotes their health, happiness and wellbeing. Continual monitoring helps us target and deal with any concerns quickly and effectively, which in turn reduces the number of hospital admissions.
We work hard to create a strong relationship with all our residents and their families and communicate current and upcoming events, news, activities and outings.
To help us continuously develop and improve our care home and the services we provide, we hold regular residents meetings and family discussions to share information and gain valuable feedback and constructive comments and suggestions.
Additionally, for our residents whose families may live far away or are unable to visit, as is the case during the current COVID-19 pandemic, we have a laptop, mobile and tablet, with video calling and email capability. This allows our residents to keep in touch with their loved ones through visual, verbal and written communication.
We also enable safe personal visiting in line with Government guidelines and adhere to strict infection prevention and control measures including visitor temperature checks, hand sanitizing stations, and wearing PPE. For more details on our COVID-19 policy, click here
For our residents’ safety and wellbeing, we operate a wireless Nursecall system. Located in every bedroom, all bathrooms, corridors and communal areas around the home, the Nursecall system allows residents, or staff, to request immediate support at any time.
We also have a CCTV system in place in all communal areas and corridors.
Our management and senior staff team monitor, manage and are fully qualified to administer medication.
We offer a range of en-suite, single and double bedrooms, all equipped with television, telephone and internet points.
Our home also has:
We have three communal rooms cater for the diverse interest and needs of our residents:
Our spacious enclosed garden filled with a variety of flowers, shrubs and trees is a peaceful place where residents can enjoy a stroll or a rest in the sunshine on one of the seating areas provided or enjoy the fresh air and view from the veranda.
We have a new visiting log cabin available to allow Covid-Safe family visiting in a warm, friendly environment.
We also use our garden for various parties, events and activities during the year.
“…the freshly prepared meals always smell and look appetising, with a choice of dishes…”Relative
Nutritious, well-balanced, fresh, healthy meals are what our residents receive each and every day here at Salvete Care Home. The Home has a Five Star Food Hygiene rating, and staff are trained with the NHS Food First initiative.
Our cooks create menus that offer both choice and diversity and cater to our residents’ dietary needs and individual preferences.
We believe that mealtimes for our residents are important, not only to maintain their health, energy and vitality but because they play a key role in their daily activities. Meal times are a great opportunity for socialising with other residents and staff: a time where they can enjoy the atmosphere with conversation, music and delicious food.
Salvete has received numerous compliments from residents and their families on both the quality and variety of food available.
Meals are generally eaten in our dining room. We also offer lounge and in-room dining. During the summer months, residents can also enjoy al-fresco dining.
“The most important thing to do as you age is to stay physically active. Lots of people just throw in the towel if they can’t do what they used to do, and that’s terrible.”
Jane Fonda
Physical exercise, mental stimulation and social interaction enrich our life and wellbeing.
As well as being supported and encouraged to continue with their existing hobbies and interests, our activities co-ordinator here at Salvete Care Home plans a variety of activities every week throughout the year, both individual and group-based, and in-house and at external venues.
Our residents enjoy a variety of activities including, arts and crafts, pottery, gardening, quizzes, bingo, jigsaws, painting, card and board games, ball games, movies, puzzles and Karaoke sessions.
For our residents who are living with dementia, we take great care to guarantee their care plans have unique activities and exercises tailored to their social history.
This customised planning allows them to enjoy positive interactions and stimulation throughout the day with the environment, the care home and our staff.
As part of our staff induction process, we encourage and promote training in Dementia Care.
An external company delivers custom-made, motivational physical and mental activity programmes for residents who wish to take part.
As a member of ‘Friends for Life’, a local charity that aims to reduce social isolation for the elderly living in care homes in Bedford, we have had regular visits from ‘befrienders’, school visits, singing, arts & crafts, reading, and inter-generational toddlers singing and movement group. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, we have arranged video calls between our residents and their befrienders.
We are fortunate to have regular visits throughout the year from vocalists, musicians, actors and artists who entertain our residents with their distinct styles of music, comedy singing and dancing. Our residents have also enjoyed the company of a variety of animals and birds that have visited our home.
We encourage our residents to feel part of the local community, and part of our activities programme includes regular events and entertainment at external venues.
Our external excursions range from taking residents to the theatre, exhibitions, festivals, community fetes, tea parties to shopping and pub lunches.
Our wonderful staff organise seasonal events and activities throughout the year celebrating Christmas, New Year, Easter, St David’s Day, St Patrick’s Day, Chinese New Year, Diwali, Valentine’s Day and Bonfire Night, amongst others.
They also organise many themed occasions for residents such as Mexican nights, Hawaiian nights and 60s parties.
However, our most important celebrations are our residents’ birthdays, and we always celebrate them with a birthday buffet, cake and music.
Here at Salvete, we like to make sure we cover all our residents’ possible needs and wants, so we also offer the following services:
We have a close working relationship with a friendly, local optician. They visit our care home regularly, or as per our residents’ needs and carry out full eye tests. They also provide us with complete status and action reports that record any changes in our residents’ eyesight.
Regular visits from a mobile chiropodist as per our residents’ needs and requirements ensure their feet remain in tip-top condition.
A professional massage and therapy service visits Salvete Care Home on a fortnightly basis and gives our residents a chance to relax, indulge and enjoy.
Our care home has a dedicated hairdressing room and a resident hairdresser who visits every week to cater to all our residents’ requests.
On top of our small, well-stocked library, we have a mobile library service visit us every month to provide new books and magazines to cater to our residents’ interests.
Local priests regularly visit Salvete to provide communion services to any residents who want to take part and meet any other spiritual requirements as necessary.
You want your loved one to have the best care possible. We work with you to make that possible.
